Howell Manufacturing

Howell Manufacturing Company of St. Charles, Illinois hired a Bauhaus trained designer, Wolfgang Hoffman, to style their first modern outdoor line. Wolfgang Hoffman was the son of Josef Hoffman, the famed Austrian architect and designer who founded the Vienna Secession and also established the venerable Wiener Werkstaate for decorative arts. Their metal cane spring back rockers were prominently featured at the Chicago World’s Fair of 1932. Sleek steel and early examples of ergonomics, these chairs are highly desirable today.

Besides manufacturing a full line of modern-inspired outdoor chairs, loungers and tables, Howell also produced metal frame upholstered gliders.
