Nicki Huggins of Retropatio

Nicki Huggins is a television producer, fine art photographer, a designer, and a collector of vintage American outdoor furniture. She also marketed the most successful documentary in television history, the Oprah Winfrey hosted event special “Scared Silent.”

With her company Retropatio, she has been supplying restored and refinished outdoor furniture to discerning clients all over the country since 1998. Retropatio furniture can be seen on ranches in New Mexico, old family homes on Nantucket, solariums in Maine, bed ‘n’ breakfasts on the craggy coast of Oregon, spreads in the Texas hill country, cabins on the Great Lakes, and on Victorian-inspired porches on the beaches of Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas.

Retropatio’s collection of restored and redesigned American outdoor steel and aluminum furniture dates from 1919 – 1960. Just after World War I, armament purveyors with elaborate metal stamping capabilities turned their attention to outdoor furniture with embossed and cut-out Victorian-inspired designs the height of style on popular chair and gliders sets. At the 1932 Chicago World's Fair, modern metal cane back spring chairs debuted and were an instant hit. The Fifties ushered in tubular aluminum, a light- weight and durable metal styled in modern shapes that remain contemporary classics.
